ST. CLOUD, Minn. (UTVS) — It is with a very heavy heart that we report that St. Cloud State University President Earl H. Potter III has passed away in a car accident.
In a letter sent to students that was also posted to the schools Facebook page, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities chancellor Steven Rosenstone delivered the news to faculty and students.
“It is with tremendous sorrow that I write to share the tragic news that Earl H. Potter III, President of St. Cloud State University, died Monday evening in an automobile accident en route to the Twin Cities for a meeting with the Foundation Board Chair,” Rosenstone says.
He also says that university provost Ashish Vaidya will serve as acting president, and the board will consider him for interim president next week.
Vaidya also sent an email to students and faculty, remembering Dr. Potter and his legacy at St. Cloud State.
“As we grieve Dr. Potter’s death, let us all come together as a community to share and strengthen the legacy that Dr. Potter leaves behind at St. Cloud State,” he says.
We thank President Potter for all he did for our organization and our university as a whole. We will keep his family and loved ones in our thoughts during this difficult time.
